I love the versatility of printmaking and particularly enjoy the start of a new project. I live in a coastal town and many aspects of the shoreline fascinate me. As I walk on the beach, I collect blue and white patterned pottery pieces, odd bits of sea glass, driftwood and seaweed to dry for printmaking.
I take a lot of photographs too:
Of the sand patterns after the tide has gone out, the dark dramatic skies and seas, linear patterns within rock formations and the blue green bloom of marram grasses and sea buckthorn.
The surrounding landscape, changing as it does with the seasons, is also a key source of inspiration.
Aspects of architecture, pier type structures, harbours with boats and all things rusty are worthy of a photo too and a place in my INSPIRATION file.
